Brynlee's Summer Activities

Brynlee has had a pretty busy summer.  Every Tuesday in June, she went to the Just for Flips Gymnastics Class at the Roanoke Rec Center.  This was just an entry level type class, so they worked on walking a balance beam, jumping on the trampoline, crawling under and through tunnels, jumping on blocks, forward rolls, back bends, log rolls, playing with the big parachutes and then playing with bubbles at the end of class.  On the last day of class they even got to swing on the parallel bars and do a rock-climbing activity. Overall, she liked the class, especially the trampoline!  She may not be the next Nastia Liukin, Olympic Gold Medalist, but at least she looked cute doing the activities!  I didn't get to take many pictures because it was a Mommy and Me class, but here are a few from my iphone.

Then for the past two weeks, she has been taking Swim Lessons at the Roanoke Rec Pool.  They are Monday-Friday from 7-7:30 at night.  This is also a parent/child class, so Travis is getting to do this one!  Unfortunately, it has been really hot this week, so Bryleigh and I have stayed home.  And let's face it, less distractions are better for her.  When we went last week, so just kept waving at us and wanting to get out of the pool.  Last week, the teachers mainly worked with them on getting used to the water, kicking their legs, blowing bubbles in the water and learning to scoop their arms.  This week they have worked on jumping off the side and going underwater (which she has not enjoyed at all!), climbing up to the side of the pool and climbing around the edge (which she loves), learning to do the starfish (floating on their backs, she doesn't like this one either and hated when they had to wear the life jackets, she said it hurt her tummy!) and practicing swimming from end to end (being held by Travis).  With only 3 more nights to go, we can actually say she has actually learned quite a bit since she hasn't really had much experience with swimming.  She always asks when is it time to go to swim lessons, can't wait to put on one of her many swimsuits and loves to go down the slide at the end of the lessons.  Here are a few pictures from last week, hope to get more on Friday.

These pictures were taken down at our neighborhood pool.  After living here for 5 years, we finally braved it and went down there (I have a lot of students who live in my neighborhood, so have never really wanted to go).  Much to my surprise we found out they have a separate pool for kids that is only 15 inches deep and she loved it!  Will definitely be going back!

When we have not been on the run, she loves playing at home, dressing up, can never get enough jewelry on, loves to play with her kitchen and loves watching Strawberry Shortcake,  We even have to pretend Brynlee is Strawberry, I am Orange Blossom, Bryleigh is Lemon Meringue, Daddy is Mr. Longface and the list goes on... We are getting good at mimicking and role playing every episode!

Love this picture.  This apron was made by my great-grandmother, Granny Moody when I was a little girl and Brynlee loves to wear it!

I have started to curl Brynlee's hair with sponge rollers for church.  Her hair is getting so long and looks so pretty when it is curled, too bad the car seat always ruins it!
